Attack on DU’s Khonika bus, 10 injured
A bus belonging to Dhaka University (DU), operating on the Tongi-Gazipur route, known as the 'Khonika' bus, was attacked, leaving at least 10 students injured. The injured students have been admitted to Crescent Hospital in Uttara.
The incident occurred around noon at Azampur in Uttara, while the bus was on its way to Gazipur on Tuesday (April 29).
DU Proctor Saifuddin Ahmed confirmed the attack to Views Bangladesh.
According to an eyewitness student, the Khonika bus was heading towards Gazipur. When it reached the BNS area of Uttara, a group of students had blocked the road, protesting after a BRTC truck reportedly hit a school student. As the DU bus arrived at the scene, the protesting students began throwing bricks and stones from all directions, injuring at least 10 DU students on the spot.
Proctor Saifuddin Ahmed told Views Bangladesh, “The attack wasn’t specifically targeted at the university. The protesters were attacking all buses. Our university bus happened to be in their way. Some of our students were injured and taken to the hospital. One of them is seriously injured. I’ve heard that the students are planning to file a police report regarding the incident.”
