The High Court has stayed the proceedings of the lease notification for setting up a sacrificial animal market in the capital's Aftabnagar residential area. As a result, lawyers have said that a cow market cannot be set up in Aftabnagar this year as well.

A High Court bench of Justice Qazi Zinat Haque and Justice Ainun Nahar Siddiqa passed the order on Sunday (May 4).

Advocate Yunus Ali Akand heard the writ petition in the court.

Earlier, on April 25, a writ petition was filed in the High Court challenging the lease notification for setting up a sacrificial animal market in the capital's Aftabnagar residential area.

Lawyer Advocate Yunus Ali Akand said that on April 21, Dhaka South City Corporation issued a lease notice for setting up a livestock market in Aftabnagar residential area. However, a rule on this matter is pending in the High Court.
