Jamuna water level exceeds danger mark
Due to runoff from hills upstream and heavy rainfall, the water level of the Jamuna River in Sariakandi Upazila of Bogura has risen above the danger mark.
According to the Water Development Board, as of 9:00 am on Thursday (July 4), the water of Jamuna is flowing 19 cm above the danger mark in Bogura.
In this river, a water level of 16.25 meters is considered 'dangerous'. Currently, the water level in the Jamuna River is at 16.44 meters.
According to local sources, as the Jamuna River's water level rises above the danger mark, lower areas and riverside grazing lands have been submerged. Approximately 25 unions along the riverbank have been trapped by the flooding.
Md Humayun Kabir, sub-divisional engineer of the Water Development Board in charge of Sariakandi Upazila, said, "The water level in the Jamuna will continue to rise for the next 24 hours. After that, it will stop rising. Beyond this, it is difficult to predict the water condition in the Jamuna."
