Litton Das named new captain of Bangladesh T20 team
Litton Kumar Das has been named the new captain of Bangladesh's T20 team. The announcement came on Sunday (May 4) in Mirpur, where chief selector Gazi Ashraf Hossain Lipu revealed the 16-member squad for the upcoming T20 series against the United Arab Emirates and Pakistan. Litton has been entrusted with the leadership role for the long term.
Wicketkeeper-batter Litton will lead the Bangladesh T20 team until the 2026 T20 World Cup. Meanwhile, fast bowler Taskin Ahmed has been left out of the squad due to injury. He also missed the recent home Test series against Zimbabwe and will sit out this T20 series as well. Mehidy Hasan Miraz has also been excluded, with the chief selector citing team balance as the reason for his omission.
Litton has taken over the T20 captaincy from Najmul Hossain Shanto. While Shanto was appointed captain across all formats in February, his role has now been narrowed, and he will continue to lead only the ODI and Test teams. Litton had previously led the T20 side during Bangladesh’s recent tour of the West Indies, where the team secured a 3-0 series win. His new appointment was widely anticipated and has now been officially confirmed.
Nazmul Abedin Fahim, BCB director and head of cricket operations, said Litton was chosen for the role because of his experience.
Bangladesh T20 Squad: Litton Kumar Das (Captain), Tanzid Hasan Tamim, Towhid Hridoy, Parvez Hossain Emon, Soumya Sarkar, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Shamim Hossain, Sheikh Mahadi, Mustafizur Rahman, Zaker Ali, Rishad Hossain, Tanvir Islam, Hasan Mahmud, Tanzim Hasan Sakib, Nahid Rana, and Shariful Islam.
