One killed in BSF firing at Kasba border

A Bangladeshi youth named Md Sakib,25, was shot dead by India’s Border Security Force (BSF) at the Kasba border in Brahmanbaria.

He died while undergoing treatment at Cumilla Medical College Hospital on Monday (May 5), confirmed Abdul Kader, Officer-in-Charge of Kasba Police Station.

Sakib was the son of Abdul Motaleb from the cluster village near the Madla border in Bayek Union of Kasba upazila.

An Indian national named Sujon Barman,35, was also injured in the incident. He is currently receiving treatment at a hospital in Dhaka. Sujon is the son of Mongol Barman from Agartala in India’s Tripura state.

According to reports, the shooting occurred around 11:45pm on Sunday (May 4) near the Madla border. Sakib and Sujon were seriously injured by BSF gunfire.

Kasba Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md. Samiul Islam said Sakib went to the Madla border with Sujon to collect a smuggled motorcycle. While they were at the border, BSF members on patrol opened fire on them, leaving both injured.

Sakib was rushed to Cumilla Medical College Hospital in critical condition, where he died on Monday morning. His body has been brought back to his home.
