Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin's wife Jahanara Abedin has passed away. She was 94. She died of old-age complications in a hospital in Dhaka on Thursday. Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor (VC) Dr Niaz Ahmed Khan expressed shock and sorrow at her death. In a message of condolence, the VC said that Jahanara Abedin had a remarkable contribution to the success of Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin. Dr Niaz Ahmed prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.

শিল্পাচার্য জয়নুল আবেদিনের স্ত্রী জাহানারা আবেদিন ইন্তেকাল করেছেন । তার বয়স হয়েছিল ৯৪ বছর। বৃহস্পতিবার (২৪ এপ্রিল) দুপুর ২টায় রাজধানীর শান্তিনগরের নিজ বাসায় বার্ধক্যজনিত কারণে শেষ নিঃশ্বাস ত্যাগ করেন তিনি। বিষয়টি গণমাধ্যমে নিশ্চিত করেছেন তার ছেলে ময়নুল আবেদিন। জয়নুল আবেদিন ও জাহানারা আবেদিন ১৯৪৬ সালে বিবাহবন্ধনে আবদ্ধ হন। ১৯৭৬ সালে জয়নুল আবেদিনের মৃত্যু হয়। স্বামীর স্মৃতিবিজড়িত শান্তিনগরের বাসায় এরপর থেকে একাই বসবাস করে আসছিলেন জাহানারা। ময়নুল আবেদিন জানান, আমার মেজ ভাই সিডনিতে আছেন। তিনি দেশে ফেরার পর আগামী রোববার দুপুরে মিরপুরের বুদ্ধিজীবী কবরস্থানে মায়ের দাফন সম্পন্ন হবে। বর্তমানে মরদেহ বারডেম হাসপাতালের হিমঘরে রাখা হয়েছে। জানাজা ও শ্রদ্ধা নিবেদনের জন্য রোববার দুপুর ১২টায় জাহানারা আবেদিনের মরদেহ ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের চারুকলা অনুষদে নেয়া হবে। এরপর জোহরের নামাজের পর বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের কেন্দ্রীয় মসজিদে জানাজা অনুষ্ঠিত হবে।
