Advocate Mahfuzur Rahman, organising secretary of the Sylhet district Awami League, has been arrested. Police detained him early Thursday morning (May 1) from his residence in the Sheikhghat area of the divisional city. Confirming the matter, Sylhet Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ziaul Haque said multiple cases have been filed against him in connection with attacks on students and civilians during the Anti-discrimination Student Movement. He has been arrested in relation to those cases.

সিলেট জেলা আওয়ামী লীগের সাংগঠনিক সম্পাদক অ্যাডভোকেট মাহফুজুর রহমানকে গ্রেপ্তার করা হয়েছে। বৃহস্পতিবার (১ মে) ভোররাতে নগরীর শেখঘাট এলাকার বাসা থেকে তাকে গ্রেপ্তার করে পুলিশ। এই বিষয়টি নিশ্চিত করে সিলেট কোতোয়ালি থানার ভারপ্রাপ্ত কর্মকর্তা (ওসি) জিয়াউল হক জানান, তার বিরুদ্ধে বৈষম্যবিরোধী ছাত্র আন্দোলন চলাকালে ছাত্র-জনতার ওপর হামলার ঘটনায় একাধিক মামলা রয়েছে। তাকে ওই সব মামলায় গ্রেপ্তার করা হয়েছে।
