Trump plans to cut 1,200 CIA employees
President Donald Trump’s administration is planning to cut around 1,200 employees from the US intelligence agency, the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).
There are also plans to reduce over a thousand positions from other intelligence agencies according to a report by The Washington Post published on Friday, .
The report says that the Trump administration has already informed lawmakers about the planned staff cuts at the CIA. This process will take place over several years. Instead of direct layoffs, the number of new hires will be reduced to lower the overall workforce.
It is reported that CIA Director John Ratcliffe, appointed by Trump, is taking quick steps to ensure that the CIA workforce can support the administration’s national security priorities.
Ratcliffe, who took over as CIA Director in January, had earlier told lawmakers that under his leadership, the agency would produce “insightful, objective, and open-source analysis.”
