A 23-year-old woman, Sadia, died on Monday morning after her scarf became entangled in the wheel of a battery-operated rickshaw in Dhaka’s Rampura area.

The incident occurred around 11:30am while Sadia and her younger brother were traveling from the Aftabnagar passport office to their sister’s home in Kalachandpur. As the rickshaw reached the Aftabnagar intersection, her scarf got caught in the rear wheel, tightening around her neck and rendering her unconscious.

She was rushed to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared her dead at around 12:30pm.

Sadia’s brother, Tamjid Naushad, said they had left their home in Sabujbagh earlier that morning for passport-related work. Passersby helped take her to the hospital following the accident, but she could not be saved.

Inspector Md Faruq of the DMCH Police Camp confirmed the incident. He said Sadia’s body had been sent to the hospital morgue, and the local police station had been notified for further legal procedures.

Originally from Newtown in Kishoreganj Sadar upazila, Sadia had been living in Dhaka with her husband, Taqi Tahmid. She was the third among four siblings.
